Who we are
mentalhealthcare.org.uk has been created by the Institute of Psychiatry – a teaching and research organisation that is part of King’s College London – and South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, a health organisation that runs the Maudsley Hospital and many other mental health services in south London.
Many of the researchers at the Institute of Psychiatry also work as mental health professionals within services run by South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. The two organisations carry out research together and are both part of King’s Health Partners, an ‘academic health sciences centre’ which also includes the rest of King's College London, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. For more information about what an academic health sciences centre does, visit King’s Health Partners website.
mentalhealthcare.org.uk is run in association with Rethink, a mental health charity for people with severe mental illness and their families. Rethink also works closely with the Institute of Psychiatry.
You can read about some of the research carried out by the Institute of Psychiatry, South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and Rethink on the pages of this website.
You can also find out more about each organisation within this section – and how you can get involved in research that seeks to find out more about the causes of psychosis and develop better treatments and support for people with severe mental illness.
